Clearing Clutter
Clutter problems
You may be one of the many people who finds it very hard to let go of the things you no longer need. There always seem to be good reasons why you should keep those plastic bags, or that cracked vase, or that radio that doesn't work anymore. Yet those reasons are often part of a sneaky system to keep the clutter habit in place.
However, at some point your accumulated unused and unappreciated possessions will begin to close in on you and your life, quite literally. And it can seem like an overwhelming task to begin the process of reclaiming your space.
Help is at hand
In my clutter clearing sessions my aim is to enable you to approach your clutter in a different way, making it a lot easier to deal with it. I am very practical and have a knack for creating order out of chaos. My love for sorting and clearing stuff seems to make the process much lighter for others, and in some cases even enjoyable.
We can work together on the phone, or if you prefer I can come to your home and help you with the hands-on clutter clearing (provided you live reasonably close to London). Both methods are very effective.
My job is to make you aware of the fact that you have a choice, and to reduce the level of stress and anxiety when you start dealing with your clutter. I will help you to make a step-by-step plan for clearing and organising your home - and it's up to you how much you want me to be involved. Weekly sessions are great to make sure that you are getting on with the plan and do what you have decided to do. Or maybe you choose to have a one-off session to get you started, and then call me again when you feel you are getting stuck.
While we work together you will learn effortlessly how to go about clearing your clutter, and it will become much easier to do it on your own.
Special occasions
There are a number of situations that are especially challenging, and where clearing clutter support is particularly valuable.
- Wardrobe sorting: help with deciding 'what not to wear', what to keep and what to buy - the gentle approach!
- Moving house: do you really want to move your clutter to your new house? The earlier you start with clutter clearing, the easier the move will be!
- Selling your house: making it look its best by clearing clutter, storing things, and maybe re-organising rooms
- Bereavement: facing the death of a loved one is extremely hard. Having to deal with sorting out their belongings can be too much to do alone - you may want to have sensitive help with this difficult task.
- Office organising: sorting, clearing and re-organising your office, and help with setting up your home office.
- Storage spaces: notorious places for surreptitiously growing clutter! I could help you reclaim a whole room or cupboard by assisting you in taking the plunge and tackling the clutter.
Feedback from clients
"During only an hour over the telephone, Maartje was able to reconnect me with the idea that shifting clutter creates a better environment, better energy and better functioning. She had me noticing things I hadn't seen before in my office - a bag full of baby's toys hanging on a door and some CD's that could easily be shifted. They were. Whilst I was talking to her I shifted a number of other things - including a bin bag full of old clothes, and I cleaned my windows that had been left covered in paint by decorators who had left a couple of weeks ago. Her coaching reminded me that clutter clearing could be fast (and even pleasant) and the results could be really worth seeing. If you are like me and want to see some of your clutter gone, but really don't want to do it - call Maartje, or read her book."

"Just a quick public thanks to Maartje de Wolff for a great coaching session on clearing clutter. I have a house full and she helped to break the back of it, get some organisation into my daily routine and inspired me to tackle the dreaded cupboard under the stairs! I have also got my 9 yr old son to tackle his soft toy mountain and the mess that is his 'storage space' under the bed. Thanks Maartje - you even persuaded me that your book would genuinely enhance my life rather than be yet one more 'life-enhancing' book that I just feel guilty about not reading properly or doing anything about!"

"Just a quick note to say thanks very much for the clearing clutter coaching session. I found it extremely helpful and will be ordering a copy of your book. I keep hearing your words in my head like "The floor is sacred," as I'm tempted to throw another lot of paper on the floor!"
Sue Hartley (coach, facilitator and trainer)
"I was dreading the session, but it was all positive. The time passed very quickly and we worked well together - you are very good at what you do."
"After my father died and there was a lot happening in my life, Maartje worked with me in getting his house ready to sell. What began as a huge task became manageable with a plan of action, which was carried out with care and gentleness in a realistic timescale. When the task was completed I felt not only relieved but also more peaceful about the situation."
"I just wanted to say that all the work we did has been absolutely fantastic. You wouldn't believe how things are moving along, it's really cleared a big block. I'm absolutely delighted!"
"I'm so glad that I was introduced to you. Working with you was very helpful and I continue to derive benefit from it - it was well worth the money!"
